DTN COMMENTS: Packer inquiry remains very limited at midday with bids
nowhere to be found. Asking prices are around $158 to $160 in the South, but
still not established in the North. If the trend of the last several weeks
continues, significant trade volume could be delayed until Thursday and/or
Friday.
The Fed Cattle Exchange Auction held today reported 60 lots (all lots in TX),
totaling 974 head of cattle, none of which sold. Opening prices were at $155,
bids were at $155.50, but they did not meet reserve prices of $158.
Beef cutouts are lower at midday (choice 264.76 -1.33, select 251.94 -0.98),
with light to moderate box movement (57.08 lds of choice cuts, 7.66 lds of
select cuts, 10.04 lds of trim, and 8.84 lds of ground). Cattle futures at
the top of the noon hour are moderately lower on live contracts, but sharply
lower on feeder issues.
